About The Position

Daemen University is seeking a Head Coach for its Men's and Women's Tennis programs. This role operates under general supervision and is responsible for actively recruiting student-athletes, scheduling games and practices, and making scholarship recommendations. The Head Coach contributes to the University's educational mission by providing instruction, direction, and coaching in tennis. Both programs will participate in DII and the PSAC starting in the 26-27 academic year. The position includes supervisory responsibility for assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and volunteer coaches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree, master's preferred in related field is required with coaching experience.
  • At least one-year of coaching experience in tennis at an NAIA, NJCCA and/or NCAA Division I, II, III institution.
  • Valid driver's license required. License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills.
  • Evidence of, and ability to articulate, a strong, current, practical knowledge of the sport of tennis.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully coach college level student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of coaching and teaching techniques and the ability to effectively use them.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
  • Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of college business on a regular basis and ability to travel when necessary.
  • Knowledge of recruiting techniques and the ability to effectively use them.
  • Current certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the educational mission of the University by coordinating the instruction of student-athletes in the area of tennis training and competition.
  • Recruits student-athletes for both men's and women's tennis program.
  • Instructs methods and strategies and coaches student-athletes in the sport.
  • Makes decisions regarding scholarships.
  • Schedules practices and games.
  • Responsible for the transport and supervises players while on the road.
  • Supervises assistant coaching staff and performs performance appraisals.
  • Participates in sport specific and department-wide fundraising initiatives.
  • Conduct camps/clinics in the sport of tennis.
  • Develop avenues for community engagement and student-athlete personal/career development.
  • Works with Vice President of Athletics, or designee, regarding specific sport budget to ensure fiscal responsibility for all aspects of program including facility rental.
  • Operates the program under the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, and the PSAC.
  • Responsible for providing all material relevant to the team (ensuring institutional, NCAA and PSAC compliance) in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Athletics or designee.
