About The Position

Lynn Public Schools is seeking a Head Coach for Girls Varsity Tennis. Lynn is a vibrant, seaside urban community located just north of Boston, known for its contemporary public art, historic architecture, thriving downtown cultural district, and abundant public parks. Lynn Public Schools proudly serves approximately 17,000 students across 29 school sites. The Head Coach will be responsible for overseeing the Girls Varsity Tennis program, ensuring player eligibility, maintaining discipline, and fostering relationships with colleges and preparatory schools. This role involves organizational matters, communication with the Principal and Athletic Director, and staying informed about league and MIAA rules and regulations. The coach will also manage equipment inventory, prepare budgets, administer injury claims, and ensure the proper use and upkeep of school facilities.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years’ successful experience as a head coach of tennis in college or high school OR at least five years of successful experience as an assistant tennis coach in college or high school.
  • Evidence of having participated in a varsity tennis program in high school, college, or any other higher level of education.
  • Knowledge of care, use and selection of equipment.
  • Successful completion of MIAA coach’s course.
  • CPR and First Aid instructor experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor academic climate of all players, check grades and credits regarding eligibility and quarterly progress during the school year.
  • Maintain discipline among teammates.
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct for Coaches established by the Lynn School Committee.
  • Work closely with guidance department regarding colleges that are of interest to team members.
  • Establish relationships with college coaches and preparatory school representatives.
  • Responsible for organizational matters for the program, such as maintaining close communications with the Principal, community involvement with boosters or varsity clubs, for example, meeting with parents and alumni, etc.
  • Evaluate assistant coaches on a seasonal basis and report findings to the Principal.
  • Recommend selection of assistant coaches to the Principal for final confirmation by the Superintendent, based on a posting, screening, interview and selection process.
  • Attend clinics, conferences and other meetings on a state and league level.
  • Participate in the Greater Boston League Conference (GBL).
  • Stay informed about changes in rules and regulations in MIAA and GBL.
  • Complete periodic inventory of all useable equipment.
  • Prepare annual budget report for equipment, supplies, etc.
  • Administer injury claim forms and follow up on progress of all injured players.
  • Confer with the principal on schedules for non-league games and pre-season scrimmages.
  • Responsible for school facilities including locker rooms and field houses.
  • Check all areas (game facilities) after everyone else has left premises.
