About The Position

Glenville State University, a member of the NCAA Division II Mountain East Conference, is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Head Cheerleading Coach. This role involves the organization and execution of practice planning, team strategies, and the development of the team's schedule, including competitive tournaments. The coach will oversee the program's operating budget, engage in fundraising activities, and instruct student-athletes in sports performance and health. Key responsibilities include recruiting qualified student-athletes, developing a competitive roster, and fostering academic success. The position also requires building strong relationships with various stakeholders and ensuring compliance with all relevant rules and regulations. The applicant must be able to drive a van and travel for extended periods, including nights and weekends. Oversight of a Graduate Assistant is also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Background in cheer, gymnastics, or dance
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to function in a service- and team-oriented environment
  • Basic computer and word processing skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365
  • Ability to drive a van and travel out of town for extended periods while working nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Organization and execution of practice planning and team strategies.
  • Development of the team’s schedule, including competitive tournaments.
  • Oversight of the program’s operating budget.
  • Fundraising, including participation with the institution’s Day of Giving and the Cheer Bingo Fundraiser.
  • Instructing student-athletes in sports performance and related health and fitness.
  • Recruitment of qualified student-athletes and developing a competitive roster.
  • Development of a comprehensive plan of Alumni Outreach.
  • Ensuring academic success of student-athletes and monitoring a positive academic environment.
  • Development of a strong relationship with the coaching staff, Athletic Department, campus, and the local community.
  • Student-athlete development.
  • NCAA compliance.
  • Tournament and practice preparation and scheduling.
  • Organize and handle all aspects of administration and adhere to the rules and regulations of GSU, MEC, and NCAA.
  • Drive a van and travel out of town for extended periods while working nights and weekends.
  • Oversight of Graduate Assistant.
