About The Position

Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation and improvement of specific activity sponsored. This role involves leading the Sideline Cheer team, ensuring adherence to MSHSAA standards, and supporting various school athletic teams. The coach is responsible for student supervision, equipment care, practice organization, and promoting sportsmanship.

Requirements

  • Must have a Teachers Certificate or valid Substitute Certificate or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.
  • Must complete MSHSAA Coaching Principles Course.
  • Must complete First Aid Requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in team dynamics according to MSHSAA standards for the activity of Sideline Cheer.
  • Implement and enforce activity standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions for sponsors.
  • Plan and administer Assistant Sponsor responsibilities.
  • Plan activities that support school’s athletic teams.
  • Ensure the Cheer/Dance Team participates in all Girls/Boys JV/Varsity home contests in basketball, football, and volleyball.
  • Make plans for the team to support soccer, baseball, track, cross country and swim in either promotion or “cheer section” during contests or events.
  • Assist in the coordination of the program.
  • Responsible for student supervision at practices and contests.
  • Coordinate with athletic team Head Coach for transportation and game management.
  • Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities being used and inspect all athletic equipment and facilities (verify inventory) and submit documentation to Athletic Director.
  • Organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with the objective of developing the student-participants’ greatest potential.
  • Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of the best training and injury management procedures.
  • Conduct team and self in an ethical manner during practices and contests, always exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship.
  • Ensure that regulations governing building use and hours are understood and enforced.
  • Arrange for the systematic return of all school equipment, maintain a correct inventory and hold the student-participant responsible for all equipment not returned in accordance with the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook.
  • Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments and arrange for the issuance of letters and special awards. All information will be turned into the Athletic Director within two weeks after the completion of the season.
  • Work with the site-based Athletic Director to provide a solid program.
  • Continue professional growth through clinics and professional publications.
  • Complete MSHSAA Coaching Principles Course and First Aid Requirement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
