About The Position

This position is responsible for planning, supervising, and implementing the camp waterfront programs, including swimming, kayaking, and water games and sports. The Head Camp Lifeguard is responsible for the safety and well-being of campers and staff during these activities. The summer camp season runs from June 8, 2026, to July 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate, some college preferred but not mandatory.
  • Certified Lifeguard, WSI
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Possess good leadership skills
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Be able to pass a child safety background check.
  • Be detail oriented and well organized.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the areas of children/personnel safety, planning, problem solving and crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement all Waterfront activities including but not limited to electives, free-time and cabin activities.
  • Create an environment that leads groups to success.
  • Develop, implement and supervise elective classes for groups ranging from 8 to 20 campers (e.g. beginning swimming, kayaking, water games).
  • Lead briefing and debriefing sessions with each group.
  • Supervise and coordinate water safety program.
  • Instruct other staff in the best techniques of water safety and first-aid emergency during the pre-camp staff training period.
  • Clearly communicate all safety procedures and standards to participants for each activity.
  • Inspect all lake equipment and make immediate report of any defects to the Discovery Camp Director or Corps Youth Officer.
  • Always maintain the lake area in a clean manner.
  • Conduct property safety checks.
  • Supervise lifeguards while they are on duty.
  • Attend to surroundings and participants needs during all sessions.
  • Be aware of any medical/physical conditions or special needs of the campers.
  • Exhibit effective Christ-like conduct and service as an appropriate example for campers.
  • Give support to the total camping program performing all other duties required to provide a consistently excellent program.
  • Attend and participate in all camp programs as required including, but not limited to evening programs, chapel activities and staff meetings.
  • Follow all policies and procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in your person and living quarters.
  • Assist with cleanup of the total camp at the end of teach session and at the conclusion of the summer.
