About The Position

A Head Camp Counselor serves as administrative leader responsible for supervising counselors and CITs, ensuring camper safety, managing behavior, and facilitating activities. They act as a liaison between staff and camp directors, often handling logistics, parent communication, and staff training to ensure a positive camp experience.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels including staff and parents
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the Chaminade Center for Excellence
  • Ability to relate to children and develop professional, positive relationships with youth
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as a role model and take initiative to identify potential risk factors and take measures to reduce them

  • Assist counselors with disciplinary issues
  • Model and enforce appropriate positive discipline techniques
  • Communicate with parents when needed
  • Become knowledgeable in camp information and procedures
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for campers and staff
  • Work with the Site Director to secure substitutes in the event of illness or other emergencies
