About The Position

This position is for a Head Cafeteria Worker at Horton High School, responsible for managing the cafeteria under the supervision of the school principal. The role involves food preparation, presentation, service, inventory management, financial reconciliation, and collaboration on cafeteria business plans and menus. The position is 7 hours per day, effective September 1, 2026, with a rate of pay as per the CUPE Collective Agreement Local 3876. Requirements

  • Knowledge of and a willingness to build healthy menus and snacks on sound nutritional principles.
  • Current Food Handlers certificate.
  • Confirmation of your educational qualifications must be included with your application.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a school at the p to 8 level is preferable.
  • Previous experience in a school cafeteria will be an asset.
  • An educational background in the nutritional studies would be and asset.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the cafeteria under the supervision of the school principal.
  • Current Food Handlers certificate.
  • Experience in the area of food preparation, presentation, and service to students and staff.
  • A willingness to consult and collaborate regarding cafeteria business plan, weekly menu and pricing.
  • Ordering food items and relevant supplies.
  • Keeping an inventory on a frequent basis, of all foods and supplies.
  • Daily deposits.
  • Cash reconciliation and sales reports.
  • Preparation and serving of food, kitchen duties as required in co-ordination with the cafeteria team (stocking, cleaning, dishes, etc.).
  • A willingness to be engaged in the school recycling program.
  • An interest in working in a school environment.
