About The Position

The Head Baseball Coach is responsible for organizing, conducting, and supervising all aspects of the intercollegiate baseball program. This includes skill instruction, practices, student-athlete strength and conditioning, competition scheduling, preparation, and coaching. The role also involves strategic recruitment and evaluation of prospective student-athletes, providing leadership for their academic progress and conduct, and ensuring adherence to all University, conference, and NCAA rules. A key aspect of the position is fostering a quality student-athlete experience that develops them through campus and community involvement, athletic competition, and academic achievement. Collaboration with Sports Medicine and Speed, Strength & Conditioning staff is essential for athlete health and development. The coach will also manage budgets, equipment, travel, and recruitment records, work with Development staff to cultivate relationships with alumni and donors, oversee assistant coaches, and represent the Department of Athletics and the baseball program at various functions. The work hours will vary based on the competition schedule, and travel is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of collegiate or professional baseball coaching experience.
  • Ability to train and recruit at the Division I collegiate level.
  • Ability to accept and carry out assigned program and responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community.
  • Ability to pass the NCAA recruiting test and have a thorough understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the structure and framework of an Athletics Department and University.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes and their ability to succeed both academically and athletically.
  • Demonstrated commitment to building a positive team culture and to the personal and professional development of student-athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, conduct, and supervise all aspects of the intercollegiate baseball program, including skill instruction, practices, student-athlete strength & conditioning, competition scheduling, competition preparation, and coaching.
  • Organize, strategize, and supervise all aspects of recruitment and evaluation of prospective student-athletes.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and supervision for the academic progress of student-athletes, and manage discipline/conduct for the program's student-athletes.
  • Adhere to all University, conference, and NCAA rules and requirements.
  • Provide leadership to ensure a quality student-athlete experience that develops the Total Tiger through campus and community involvement, competition, and academic achievement.
  • Collaborate with Sports Medicine and Speed, Strength & Conditioning staff to ensure student-athlete health, safety, and athletic development.
  • Prepare budgets, manage equipment needs, handle travel advances/reconciliations, and maintain prospective student-athlete recruitment records.
  • Work with Development staff to establish relationships with alumni and potential donors.
  • Oversee and assign responsibilities to assistant coaches, supervise their work performance, and conduct evaluations.
  • Represent the Department of Athletics and the baseball program at University, department, media, and community functions.
