The Head Athletic Trainer will work under the direct supervision of the team physician(s) to manage acute injuries and illnesses in athletes, implement rehabilitation procedures, and oversee the operation of therapeutic devices and equipment. This role involves the application of braces, guards, and tape, making referrals to physicians or health services, maintaining medical records, and coordinating annual athletic physicals. The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive injury and illness prevention program, attending practices and contests, and communicating effectively with students, parents, medical personnel, coaches, and staff. Additionally, the role includes providing physical conditioning training, preparing athletes for events, responding to emergencies, and establishing procedures for medical emergencies. The Head Athletic Trainer will also detect and resolve environmental risks, determine therapeutic goals, apply therapeutic modalities, and instruct athletes on exercise equipment. This position involves selecting, training, and supervising student assistants, assisting with the sports medicine program budget, and potentially conducting CPR, AED, and first aid training. Maintaining and filing all required records, overseeing training room operations, and managing inventory are also key responsibilities. Regular and reliable attendance is essential.
