About The Position

Apex Companies is seeking a Hazardous Waste and Environmental Specialist to provide expertise to a national aerospace manufacturer client. This role is crucial for supporting site-wide hazardous waste and environmental compliance operations. Apex has a long-standing relationship with this client, assisting them with occupational health and safety, ergonomics, environmental, and engineering goals for over two decades. The incumbent will work closely with environmental, engineering, maintenance, leadership, and EHS stakeholders to address compliance gaps and support daily operations. This is a full-time, onsite position for an initial duration of 6 months, with a possibility of extension based on performance and client needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental, waste management, chemical, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive hazardous waste and/or waste management, engineering, environmental/hazardous waste compliance experience.
  • 40 hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Reasonable computer skills (data entry, email, ability to learn client’s internal database and programs).
  • Ability to work as part of a team with the client’s current Environmental employees.
  • Excellent communication, training, technical writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard safety documentation and reporting practices.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Washington Dangerous Waste regulations.
  • Familiarity with related records (manifests, hazardous waste invoices, MSD, etc.).
  • DOT trained (not required, and not expected to sign manifests).
  • Ability to give small presentations is desirable but not required.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
  • Certified Professional in Waste Management (CPWM).
  • Hazardous Waste Management Specialist (HMS).

Responsibilities

  • Provide overarching Hazardous Waste and Environmental Safety expertise.
  • Support site-wide hazardous waste and environmental compliance operations.
  • Assist with closing hazardous waste and compliance gaps.
  • Support day-to-day hazardous waste and environmental compliance operations.
  • Conduct walking inspections of RCRA accumulation/satellite areas.
  • Document and photograph areas of concern and develop professional emails for mitigation.
  • Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrective measures were implemented.
  • Perform sampling for the Factory Dust Disposal Project.
  • Track hazardous waste locations and disposal requests.
  • Conduct Site Inspections – Small Quantity Generators.
  • Review/Update Land Disposal Restrictions Project Support.
  • Update Battery Collection Locations with HazMat information.
  • Compile and organize RCRA Inspection Forms.
  • Review and approve invoices.
  • Assist in developing a mini training program on regulatory compliance and policies.
  • Train individuals or small groups on policies, program aspects, and compliance during crew meetings.
  • Potentially give small presentations.
