About The Position

This position involves collecting, processing, and preparing University of Florida Radioactive and Chemical Waste for shipment and disposal. The specialist will perform tasks to ensure facility and institutional compliance with permits, licenses, and Federal, State, and Local regulations. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing samples for chemical and radioactive materials, maintaining records, performing inspections, routine cleaning and maintenance of facilities and equipment, and responding to chemical spills. A criminal background check and post-offer health assessment will be conducted. The role requires driving a state vehicle, necessitating a valid driver's license.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and one (1) year of appropriate experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Driver License

  • One or more years of experience working in the area of chemical and/or radioactive waste management
  • Working knowledge of chemistry
  • Knowledge of regulations pertaining to chemical and radioactive waste management

  • Understanding of basic principles of radioactivity and radiation protection technology.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations and policies

  • Ability to do physical labor
  • Ability to wear a full face air purifying respirator
