About The Position

This position is responsible for inspecting and processing eggs for incubation, inspecting and processing chicks, and maintaining/cleaning the hatchery facility. Other duties may be assigned. The jobsite is a biosecure environment requiring showering and changing clothing before entering. The successful candidate must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Tyson is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Requirements

  • No disciplinary actions within the last 6 months
  • Willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.)
  • Willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines
  • Must use safe lifting techniques
  • Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 40 pounds to move items such as tray of eggs, etc; tools, such as wheeled buggy, may be required to occasionally move up to 1,000 pounds such as egg buggies.
  • Regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor/padded floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; weekly changing of filters and lightbulbs; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments.
  • Safety goggles and/or glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and company issued footwear are required.
  • Ear plugs will be used as required.
  • NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.
  • Follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.

Responsibilities

  • Grade and transfer eggs from pedigree flocks for hatch
  • Tray eggs which consists of: observe shell color and texture as well as other external characteristics such as streaks, shadings, discolorations, and size. Transfer eggs by examination of position of yolk, and size of air cell; place hatching eggs in hatch buggies; place broken, dirty or other substandard eggs in container
  • Record data entry of egg and chick information onto touch screen tablet
  • Perform the following sanitation activities: operate tray washer, remove eggshells. Use broom, power washer, scratch pads and squeegee to clean and sanitize setters, hatchers, egg rooms, tables, drains and chick processing areas
  • Participate in hatch process by wingbanding chicks, vaccination of chicks using gun to inject vaccine, count chicks. Deliver chicks to Brooding houses.
  • Euthanize selected or sub standard chicks by company approved methods of euthanizia.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: clean hatchery office, break room and restrooms; sanitize vehicles; assist with egg orders.
