The Harvest Room Labor position hangs live birds in shackles. Located after the cage dumper, it is the first chain-driven operation. The live hanger removes a bird from the hanging belt, grasps one leg and then the other, positions the bird with its breast facing away, and hangs it by both legs in a shackle. Hang rate varies by bird weight. Hangers rotate positions from front to back and place any DOAs into the DO barrel at the end of the conveyor. The position is paid $19.70 per hour, with a $1.00-per-hour second-shift differential. Stay-on bonuses for employees in the live-hang position are $500 at 30 days, $500 at 90 days, and $1,000 at 180 days (six months). Applicants previously employed by Tyson must wait 181 days before reapplying and may apply if they have worked at Tyson no more than three times. Some roles require a background check. Hourly applicants must complete a task after submitting an application to provide additional information for consideration. Successful candidates must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Relocation assistance is not available.
