About The Position

Willamette Valley Vineyards is seeking a Harvest Lab Intern to support the winemaking team during the 2026 harvest season. This role focuses on laboratory support and quality control, assisting with sample processing, analysis, and monitoring fermentations. The position is seasonal, typically running from late August through the end of harvest, with a potential extension through December if lab work demands it. The intern will gain experience working with a variety of grape varietals and AVAs, contributing to the production of high-quality wines.

Requirements

  • Coursework in Viticulture and Enology strongly suggested.
  • Working toward a BS or MS in V&E preferred or completed a degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology or enology is preferred.
  • Actual chemistry experience is preferred.
  • Previous winery/lab experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong desire to work in the winemaking field producing world class wines.
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel) with excellent reasoning abilities, outstanding verbal communication skills, and strong data management skills.
  • Able to speak, read, and write fluently English. Willing to learn some Spanish on the job.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to understand and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and willingness to work long hours.
  • Willing to work flexible hours including overtime and varying shifts and weekends, in various climate conditions.
  • Able to perform heavy physical work (lifting, bending, climbing, pulling, or squatting for long periods of time).
  • Able to tolerate exposure to outside elements (heat, wet and/or damp conditions, cold).

Responsibilities

  • Process vineyard maturity samples.
  • Perform laboratory analysis on juice and wine, including Brix, pH, TA, and enzymatic and colorimetric measurements using Biosystems Spica.
  • Take daily Brix and temperature readings, and sample tanks and barrels.
  • Record and communicate accurate lab records.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the wine and cellar crew to monitor fermentations, including cleaning, sampling, and additions.
  • Perform daily set-up and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with winemaking staff.
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed.
  • Support the company’s effort to create a more sustainable, cross-cultural, and “green” environment.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Winemaking Team.
