About The Position

The Harm Reduction Coordinator oversees the planning, coordination, and day-to-day operations of BOOM!Health’s harm reduction programs, including syringe services, evening services (Tuesday–Friday, 2:00 PM–10:00 PM), Saturday services (8:00 AM–4:00 PM), outreach activities, overdose prevention initiatives, and other low-threshold support services. The Coordinator works collaboratively with participants, community partners, healthcare providers, and program staff to increase access to safer use supplies, naloxone, health education, and linkage to care. The Coordinator ensures compliance with organizational policies, contract requirements, and harm reduction best practices while promoting participant-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive services that uphold the dignity, autonomy, and self-determination of people who use drugs. This position provides operational oversight and program coordination while fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for participants and staff.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of harm reduction theory and practice.
  • Experience providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and nonjudgmental services with a strong emphasis on participant-centered care.
  • Skilled in de-escalation and conflict resolution in high-need, community-based service environments.
  • Experience working in harm reduction, public health, or human services settings supporting people who use drugs and other marginalized communities.
  • Ability to foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for participants, including PWUD, PLWHA, LGBTQIA+ individuals, MSM, people experiencing homelessness, and sex workers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to support coordination of fixed-site program operations in collaboration with program leadership.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Experience with inventory management, including ordering, receiving, tracking, and safe storage of harm reduction supplies.
  • Familiarity with data systems such as AIRS and eShare, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to support training and onboarding of staff and peers in harm reduction practices, as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of fixed-site harm reduction services, ensuring a participant-centered, trauma-informed, and low-threshold service environment.
  • Implement and monitor program policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with harm reduction principles, contract requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Provide participant-centered support in service settings, engaging individuals in a respectful, nonjudgmental manner that promotes dignity, autonomy, and trust.
  • Respond to and de-escalate participant situations as needed, using trauma-informed and harm reduction-informed approaches to maintain safety for participants and staff.
  • Conduct community engagement activities, including education on safer substance use, overdose prevention, and available support services.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, service providers, and stakeholders through referral networks, MOUs, LOAs, and linkage agreements.
  • Coordinate fixed-site service operations and onsite community events.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation, participant records, and inventory of harm reduction supplies.
  • Support data collection, program reporting, contract deliverables, site visits, and program evaluations.
  • Represent BOOM!Health at community meetings, events, and partner organizations.
