About The Position

The Hardware Technician (Student) supports the University Information Technology (UIT) Hardware team by assisting with device diagnostics, repair, and lifecycle processes. This position provides hands-on technical experience while supporting daily IT operations across campus. This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Requirements

  • Must be willing to work a minimum of 10 hours per week
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware components (RAM, storage, batteries, peripherals, etc)
  • Willingness to complete vendor training (Dell TechDirect & Apple certifications)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in IT support or technical troubleshooting
  • Progress toward or completion of Apple or Dell certifications
  • Experience repairing or upgrading computer hardware
  • Familiarity with macOS and/or mobile devices
  • Experience working in a ticketing system (e.g., TDX or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Complete hardware repairs and upgrades (e.g., RAM, storage, battery replacement) on both university owned devices and personally owned student devices.
  • Perform hardware diagnostics and basic troubleshooting on university devices and personally owned student devices.
  • Intake, documentation, and ticket management within TDX.
  • Device preparation, cleaning, and inventory/parts organization.
  • Training, support, and additional duties including endpoint assistance and projects.
