About The Position

The Hardware Specialist Supervisor will be responsible for assisting the Facilities Director with coordinating work assignments, coaching and training of team members on work duties and departmental policies and procedures. The Hardware Specialist Supervisor will perform skilled journey level work of the locksmith trade in connection with the maintenance and repair of the facilities' doors, door hardware, restroom, and standard building hardware. Inspects buildings, facilities and equipment and recommends repairs. The Hardware Specialist Supervisor will also oversee operation of the cabinet shop.

Requirements

  • Certificate of competency as a locksmith preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of cabinetry and millwork maintenance, fabrication, and installation.
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s license.
  • 5 or more years of related experience.
  • Supervisory experience desirable.
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team.
  • Through journey level knowledge and skill in performing the duties of a hardware specialist, including journey level skill in preventative maintenance and repair procedures, trouble-shooting, construction, installation and fabrication techniques.
  • Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions.
  • Knowledge of building codes, rules and regulations.
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains and coordinates work schedule for the Hardware and Cabinet Shop team.
  • Trains Hardware and Cabinet Shop teams on departmental policies and procedures and documents the training.
  • Assists in ensuring that departmental policies and procedures are followed.
  • Monitors and documents team members’ guest service and technical performance.
  • Assists management in setting expectations, holding team members accountable for their tasks.
  • Performs skilled tasks involving the maintenance of file cabinets, desks, padlocks, locksets, exit devices, door closers and floor checks.
  • Oversees fabrication, installation and repair of cabinets, podiums, millwork panels, frames and wire covers.
  • Performs installation and routine maintenance on all type of locking and closing mechanisms.
  • Orders all necessary materials to ensure timely completion ensuring project deadlines are met of projects with a high level of quality and detail.
  • Establishes a secure master key system involving great grand master, sub master and change keys. Integrates new sub master and change keys into existing master key systems without cross keying.
  • Keeps accurate and up to date records of filing, logging of keys by hook, code, door or space number including manufacturer of locks, other keys that operate lock and the function of the lock.
  • Utilizes computer systems for documentation.
  • Adjusts and repairs doors and windows of both wood and metal construction as required.
  • Performs duties with a high sensitivity toward security.
  • Assists with other crafts as required.
  • Prepares and submits daily labor and material cost records.
  • Repairs and replaces existing building hardware and support equipment as required.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of operational and repair requirements.
  • Maintains a proficiency in the use of hand and power tools standard within the trades.
  • Interprets door schedule, cabinetry and millwork blueprints, drawings and sketches.
  • Prepares estimates and work plans for jobs performed by in house team members as well as outside contractors.
  • Coordinates with local vendors for locksmith services.
  • Performs all related and compatible duties as assigned.
  • Ensures that shops, workspaces and surrounding areas are kept at a high level of organization, cleanliness and all applicable OSHA standards are met including machine guarding and PPE.
  • Assigns work and monitors Hardware and Cabinet shop team’s performance.
  • Works with management to administer disciplinary actions.
