Hardware Program Manager

Canary Technologies Corp•New York, NY

About The Position

Canary Technologies is hiring its first hardware employee to own the company’s self check-in kiosk from specification through deployment in hotels. The role will define the product specification, select and manage external design consultants and factories, and review their work for errors. The hire will not produce CAD drawings but must be able to assess industrial, mechanical, and electrical designs and reject work that is incorrect. The position is expected to perform most hardware work personally during the first year and build a hardware team as the function grows. The role also covers integrating an unattended payment terminal, including terminal selection, key injection, enclosure installation within PCI PTS limits, and gateway or PSP certification. It will establish the fulfillment pipeline from factory to hotel, covering freight, customs and duties, warehouse strategy, pre-shipment staging, and last-mile delivery coordination. The position will also own spare parts and returns for units that fail in the field. Travel to factories in Asia and hotel properties across the US, EMEA, and Asia is required; travel is expected to be around 25% during the first six months, with the amount fluctuating. Canary Technologies provides an agentic AI platform for hotel and guest management, serving more than 20,000 hotels in over 125 countries. The company partners with hospitality brands including Marriott International, Four Seasons, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

Requirements

  • Has taken a hardware product from its first specification to units in the field at a small company and owned the whole product, rather than only one component or schedule.
  • Has designed and built hardware, rather than purchasing a finished terminal and placing it in a standard enclosure.
  • Has personally performed substantial hands-on hardware work within the last six months, rather than working only through a team.
  • Has managed outside design consultants and/or a factory, including rejecting a design that was not correct.
  • Has sufficient industrial, mechanical, and electrical design knowledge to identify errors in consultant or factory work; CAD production is not required.
  • Lives in New York City or is willing to relocate there.
  • Able to travel to factories and hotel properties; travel is expected to be around 25% during the first six months.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating unattended payment terminals, including terminal selection, key injection (DUKPT / P2PE) at a certified key injection facility or through remote key injection, installation within PCI PTS limits, and gateway / PSP certification.
  • Experience setting up a factory-to-customer-site fulfillment process, including freight, customs and duty, 3PL versus in-house warehouse, pre-shipment staging, last-mile delivery and installation dates, spare parts, and returns.

  • Build the fulfillment pipeline from factory to hotel, including freight, customs and duty, and deciding between a third-party logistics provider and an in-house warehouse.
  • Design pre-shipment staging, including imaging, key injection, kitting, and serial numbers, so kiosks arrive ready to install.
  • Coordinate last-mile delivery with hotel installation dates.
  • Own spare parts and the return process for units that fail in the field.
  • Travel to factories in Asia and hotel properties across the US, EMEA, and Asia.
