Job Title Hardware Lab Manager What does a successful Hardware Lab Manager do at Clover? At Clover, a successful Hardware Lab Manager serves as the backbone of our product development cycle for cutting-edge POS and payment systems. You aren't just managing a space; you are the primary facilitator for hardware innovation. You’ll thrive by balancing technical execution—like precision soldering and system flashing—with the organizational mastery required to keep an engineering lab running at peak efficiency. Your ability to bridge the gap between schematics and physical prototypes ensures our hardware teams meet critical milestones in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Requirements

  • Advanced Technical Craft: Mastery of soldering and rework techniques for prototype modifications and failure analysis.
  • Lab Operations Experience: Proven track record in lab management , including equipment maintenance, inventory control, and safety/calibration compliance.
  • Flashing & Debugging Expertise: Hands-on experience with flashing firmware/software and performing deep-dive debugging on various electronic circuits.
  • Hardware Fluency: An understanding of electronic circuits, schematics, and assembly specifications.
  • Self-Direction: The ability to prioritize tasks, support multiple engineers independently and manage competing deadlines in a cross-functional setting.
  • Fixturing: Assembling mechanical and electrical test fixtures and setups to facilitate product testing.
  • 3+ years of experience in a lab environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience specifically with POS or Payment System hardware.
  • Knowledge of scripting for automating prototype software updates and version control.
  • Experience managing external fab houses and specialized assembly vendors.
  • Education: AS or BS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.

Responsibilities

  • Precision Rework & Assembly: Perform high-level soldering and rework on prototype hardware, assisting the team with system bring-up and complex debugging.
  • Strategic Lab Management: Maintain a lab environment by organizing parts and tools, managing equipment calibration schedules, and ensuring the facility is always "test-ready."
  • Engineering Support: Build mechanical and electrical test fixtures and execute engineering tests with minimal supervision, providing critical failure analysis and debugging data.
  • Vendor & Resource Coordination: Manage external relationships, including booking slots at third-party test labs and coordinating with fabrication/assembly facilities for prototyping needs.
  • System Maintenance: Troubleshoot lab equipment and keep prototype software up to date via flashing and script execution.
