About The Position

Applied Intuition, Inc. is seeking a Hardware Integration Engineer to join their hardware team. This role is crucial for the buildout, testing, maintenance, and improvement of their fleet utilization rate. The engineer will serve as the lead technical reference for the self-driving system, working closely with hardware engineers, engineering technicians, operators, and safety drivers. The position focuses on deploying autonomy technology to mining customers, involving close collaboration with the engineering team in Sunnyvale and on-site work with customers. The engineer will become a subject matter expert on Applied's autonomous mining system, own the deployment of integrated autonomous systems onto mining and construction vehicles at customer sites, and be responsible for fleet reliability and first-line issue resolution. They will also provide vehicle integration support across the organization by designing, prototyping, and installing proof-of-concept systems and sensors, lead vehicle support from build-out through delivery, and design/build test benches for system validation. The role involves troubleshooting vehicle systems, computer components, and sensors, performing root cause analysis, minimizing vehicle downtime, and focusing on safety. The ability to work independently on dynamically evolving challenges is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical, electrical or related field
  • 5+ years technical experience in mechanical, electrical, computer, mining or the construction industry
  • Experience working with AV Components Lidars, Radars, Camera et
  • Previous experience with low volume manufacturing in the off-road industry
  • Proven ability to read and understand electrical schematics, datasheets
  • Experience with documenting and maintaining detailed assembly procedures
  • Experience using shop equipment, 3D printers, automotive diagnostic tools

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CAD (or SolidWorks) design process is a plus
  • CNC, Machining, Metal Working and Welding experience
  • Experience with Automotive Repair and Maintenance
  • Familiarity with Python or other programming languages
  • Familiarity with ROS and Linux OS
  • Familiarity with programming microcontrollers/microprocessors

Responsibilities

  • Be the subject matter expert for Applied’s autonomous mining system by building a deep familiarity with all aspects of the system.
  • Work directly at customer sites to own the deployment of integrated autonomous systems onto mining and construction vehicles.
  • Own the fleet reliability and be first line of triage and issue resolution for issues found at the customer site.
  • Provide vehicle integration support across the organization by designing, prototyping, and installing proof-of-concept systems and sensors under evaluation.
  • Lead and support the vehicle from the build-out phase through delivery to our operations team, including final bring-up and shakedown testing.
  • Design and build test benches to validate mechanical, electrical, embedded and software systems.
  • Develop and own documentation as it relates to vehicle integration.
  • Troubleshooting the vehicles systems, computer components and sensors performing root cause analysis.
  • Working to minimize vehicle downtime while focused on safety.
  • Able to work independently on high level dynamically evolving challenges.
