About The Position

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a Hardware Engineering Technician working in our research and development division. This technician will be testing proto units and boards with a chance to perform investigative troubleshooting to the component level. As a Hardware Engineering Technician a typical day might include the following: Work with mixed-discipline engineering teams to perform in-depth troubleshooting, reverse-engineering, and analysis of failures in protective relay platforms. With engineering support, perform/develop mixed-disciplinary tests (hardware emphasis) of varying complexity based on an existing and evolving knowledge of embedded systems, power systems, electronics and protective relay platforms. Own the communication of results and progress to product line owners, manufacturing and quality personnel via test reports, and established meetings. Build engineering prototypes under the direction of an electrical engineer. Document prototype construction and maintain pertinent engineering records. Design and assemble test fixtures and other components common to product development.

Requirements

  • Two-year electronic technology or related associate degree.
  • Minimum of two years of hands-on industry experience in testing, analyzing and troubleshooting complex electronic circuitry.
  • Detail-oriented person and enjoy board-level troubleshooting and tend to perform in-depth analysis.
  • Excellent troubleshooter who gets to the root cause on a self-directed basis with minimal external guidance.
  • Proficient with the fundamentals of analog and digital circuits.
  • Proficient with test equipment used in electronics labs.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and speaking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Python, C, or assembly languages
  • Experience with Advanced Test Equipment, O.S., and computer equipment
  • Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems
