Hardware Engineering Summer Intern

Seagate Technology•Longmont, CO
•Onsite

About The Position

The Hardware Engineering design team develops mechanical designs for next-generation high-capacity disc drives. This summer 2027 internship is a 12-week opportunity for a mechatronics or mechanical engineering student to work with the team at Seagate’s Longmont, Colorado design center. The intern will work on a focused test-fixture design and development project. Using SolidWorks, they will design and build a fixture to measure hard disc drive deflection under different boundary conditions. They will use the fixture to characterize deflection with a Smartscope, assess system-level impacts with a scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometer, analyze the data, and summarize results with recommendations for next steps. The work may inform improvements to existing designs and future products.

Requirements

  • Be a current second- or third-year Bachelor's student majoring in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Be able to work 100% on site during the internship.
  • Be able to use SolidWorks to design and detail components.
  • Be able to conduct extensive laboratory measurement and testing using equipment such as SLDV, Smartscope, Keyence, and MATLAB station.
  • Be skillful in using Python to write testing scripts.
  • Have experience with mechanical instrumentation and tools.
  • Have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Be self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Have an affinity for hands-on engineering and interacting with various engineering disciplines.
  • Be a responsible, motivated team player.
