About The Position

The iPad System EE team designs, implements, and electrically validates iPad hardware architectures. The Hardware Engineering Intern will work alongside System EE engineers on board bring-up, hardware validation, lab instrumentation, and failure analysis, bridging hardware and software through automated test development and electrical debugging. The role supports development of next-generation iPad platforms and uses modern engineering and AI-assisted workflows to accelerate hardware development cycles. The intern will participate in prototype PCBA bring-up and power-on sequencing; troubleshoot signal integrity, power, and functional issues using laboratory instrumentation; execute validation plans across power rails, high-speed interfaces, and peripheral buses; and collaborate with Silicon, Firmware, Software, and Product Design partners. The role also includes developing Python-based test automation, applying AI tools and agentic workflows to engineering tasks, analyzing parametric datasets, and preparing technical reports and failure-analysis summaries. This is a six-month, on-site internship with a flexible start date aligned with the academic calendar.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a BS, MS, or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Solid fundamentals in electrical engineering, including analog and digital circuit analysis, power delivery, and signal integrity basics.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with circuit assembly, soldering, schematic/layout reading, and standard bench instrumentation.
  • Basic proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language, such as Python, C/C++, or Shell.
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to commit to a six-month on-site internship; start date is flexible and aligned with the academic calendar.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with computer or embedded architectures, including ARM, MCU, or SoC peripheral buses such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, or PCIe.
  • Experience writing instrument control scripts using PyVISA or SCPI, or experience with automated hardware test benches.
  • Experience or strong interest in using modern AI tools and agentic workflows, such as LLM coding assistants, automated script generation, or AI-assisted data analysis.
  • Strong analytical mindset, curiosity about cutting-edge technologies, and ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in prototype PCBA bring-up and power-on sequencing.
  • Use laboratory instruments to troubleshoot and isolate signal integrity, power, and functional issues.
  • Execute validation and characterization test plans against design specifications for power rails, high-speed interfaces, and peripheral buses.
  • Collaborate with Silicon, Firmware, Software, and Product Design partners on system-level validation.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain automated test scripts, primarily in Python, to control test equipment, stimulate physical devices, and increase validation coverage.
  • Explore and apply AI coding tools and agentic workflows for data parsing, automated log analysis, script generation, and engineering documentation.
  • Process parametric datasets, identify statistical margins and test trends, and prepare technical reports and failure-analysis summaries.
