About the position
Shift5 is hiring a Hardware (electrical) Engineer/Senior Hardware Engineer to join their team in Rosslyn, VA. As a vital member of the Intake product team, you will be responsible for creating the hardware configuration of their products, including component selection, schematic capture, and printed circuit board design. The role also involves analyzing existing systems, making modifications to increase computer performance, and assessing customer needs. Shift5 is a rapidly growing data and cybersecurity scale-up, focused on providing real-time alerting and historical trends to assure mission readiness and cyber survivability.
Responsibilities
- Create the hardware configuration of products
- Select components and perform schematic capture
- Design and layout printed circuit boards
- Work on an interdisciplinary team to create compact and cost-effective assemblies
- Analyze existing systems to identify flaws or inefficiencies
- Make modifications to increase computer performance
- Assess customer needs and company standards for hardware modifications
- Build or oversee the assembly of prototypes
- Test prototypes to ensure they operate according to specifications
- Identify defects and estimate cost, reliability, and safety factors
- Contribute to shaping the design process
- Generate high-impact products
- Learn about new topics and explore outside of comfort zone
- Work with like-minded individuals
- Capture and analyze serial bus data in real time
- Provide anomaly detection and operational intelligence
- Assure mission readiness and cyber survivability
- Enable military systems to deter adversaries and protect warfighters
- Collaborate with a passionate and driven team of cyber security experts
- Design circuit boards with PCB design and layout experience
- Utilize FPGA design and Electrical CAD software packages
- Use test equipment such as oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer
- Knowledge of MIL, DO, and IPC standards is a plus
- Be self-motivated with strong skills and experience in electrical engineering or related field.
Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience designing circuit boards (7+ years for Senior Hardware Engineer)
- Experience with PCB design and layout
- Experience with FPGA design
- Experience with Electrical CAD software packages (Altium preferred)
- Experience with test equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, and others)
- Knowledge of MIL, DO, and IPC standards is a plus
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving and technical skills
