About the position
Shift5 is hiring a Hardware (electrical) Engineer to join their team. As a vital member of the Intake product team, you will be responsible for creating the hardware configuration of their products, including component selection, schematic capture, and printed circuit board design. You will also analyze existing systems, make modifications to increase computer performance, and assess customer needs when modifying or creating hardware. Additionally, you will be involved in building prototypes, testing them for compliance with specifications, and estimating cost, reliability, and safety factors. Responsibilities
- Create the hardware configuration of products
- Select components and perform schematic capture
- Design and layout printed circuit boards
- Work on an interdisciplinary team to create compact and cost-effective assemblies
- Analyze existing systems to identify flaws or inefficiencies
- Make modifications to increase computer performance
- Assess customer needs and company standards for hardware modifications
- Build or oversee the assembly of prototypes
- Test prototypes to ensure they operate according to specifications
- Identify defects and estimate cost, reliability, and safety factors
- Contribute to shaping the design process
- Learn about new topics and explore outside of comfort zone
- Collaborate with like-minded individuals
- Capture and analyze serial bus data in real time
- Provide anomaly detection and operational intelligence
- Assure mission readiness and cyber survivability
- Enable military systems to deter adversaries and protect warfighters
- Maintain competitive edge
- Design circuit boards with PCB design and layout experience
- Utilize FPGA design
- Use Electrical CAD software packages, preferably Altium
- Operate test equipment such as oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer
- Knowledge of MIL, DO, and IPC standards is a plus
- Possess self-motivation and strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience designing circuit boards (experience with PCB design and layout highly preferred)
- Experience with FPGA design
- Experience with Electrical CAD software packages (Altium preferred)
- Experience with test equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, and others)
- Knowledge of MIL, DO, and IPC standards is a plus
- Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
