About The Position

The Hardware Engineer II reviews, qualifies, and approves electrical, electromechanical, and optoelectronic components for production use. The role covers components and modules including resistors, capacitors, ICs, connectors, discrete components, inductors, filters, timing devices, PCB/FPC, camera, optics, display, and battery modules. The engineer executes second-source and multi-source qualifications in alignment with sourcing strategy, helping mitigate supply risks, shortages driven by end-of-life, allocation, lead times, or product-change notifications, and reduce cost. The role also manages component criticality and qualification paths, New Part Requests, qualified manufacturer part numbers, and component records across AVL, PLM, and CBOM systems. This position supports both NPI and sustaining products by executing ECNs, tracking PCNs, performing up-screening, derating, and component-level failure analysis, and maintaining BOM integrity through advanced risk reviews. It partners with GSM and PCE as the technical counterpart on Category A/B parts and supports contract manufacturers with component inquiries and shortage escalations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in component/hardware engineering, supplier quality, or supply-chain engineering.
  • Working knowledge of passive and active components, datasheets, and qualification/reliability methods, including up-screening, derating, and failure analysis.
  • Experience with PLM (Agile/TeaCliententer), AVL/BOM management, and ECN/PCN processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Consumer electronics or high-volume hardware NPI experience.
  • Electrical Engineering experience.
  • Track record of introducing alternate sources at scale and driving cost savings.
  • Direct experience with contract manufacturers and component suppliers across regions.
  • Proficiency in leveraging AI tools and consumer-electronics expertise to develop data-mining solutions and design guidelines that enable GSM and EE teams to make data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Review, qualify, and approve electrical, electromechanical, and optoelectronic components for production use.
  • Execute second-sourcing and multi-sourcing activities, including paper and build qualifications, in alignment with sourcing strategy and guidance.
  • Help de-risk supply, mitigate EOL-, allocation-, lead-time-, and PCN-driven shortages, and reduce cost.
  • Determine component criticality (Class A/B/C) and define qualification paths with EE reviewers.
  • Manage New Part Requests and add qualified MPNs to the AVL, PLM (TeaCliententer), and CBOM.
  • Execute ECNs and track PCNs across NPI and sustaining products.
  • Perform up-screening, derating, and component-level failure analysis.
  • Own advanced BOM risk reviews, identify component issues proactively, and maintain EE BOM integrity across the portfolio.
  • Partner with GSM on commercial and allocation topics and PCE on cost as the technical counterpart for Category A/B parts.
  • Support CM component inquiries and shortage escalations.
