About The Position

Apple Inc. is hiring for a hardware development role in San Diego, California. The position works with cross-functional teams—including Mechanical Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Display Engineering, and Process Engineering—to develop, integrate, test, and validate hardware and sensing technologies. Responsibilities include schematic capture for boards, modules, and flex designs; ASIC application design; system-level bring-up and integration; module testing across supply chain nodes; failure analysis and root-cause diagnosis; and preparing designs for mass production through performance optimization. The role also supports touch-module technologies, scan-plan validation, lab testing, software infrastructure tools, and schematic and board-layer design reviews. International travel is required 10% of the time. The position is 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering in Internet of Things, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with analog and mixed-signal circuit design.
  • Experience with system-level engineering concepts, including digital signal processing, noise, interference, and electromagnetic analysis.
  • Experience with mixed-signal PCB design, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection.
  • Expertise with scientific modeling and analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, or equivalent.
  • Expertise with simulation tools such as Cadence, HSpice, or equivalent.
  • Experience performing failure analysis and hardware debugging to solve complex technical issues during hardware development.
  • Experience generating functional and test specification documents.
  • Experience using lab equipment such as high-speed oscilloscopes, DMMs, TDM, or logic analyzers to take accurate, high-quality measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Display Engineering, Process Engineering, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Lead cross-functional integration discussions and electrical-engineering coexistence assessments.
  • Perform schematic capture for board, module, and flex designs.
  • Design ASIC applications and perform system-level bring-up and integration.
  • Test modules and validate features across supply chain nodes.
  • Analyze failure modes, diagnose root causes, and solve system-level problems.
  • Prepare designs for mass production through failure-mode analysis, root-cause diagnosis, and performance-optimization iterations.
  • Discuss, design, and validate sensing technologies for future programs, including preparing factory validation plans.
  • Create software infrastructure tools using Python and MATLAB to improve team members’ daily post-processing tasks.
  • Contribute to improvements in existing technologies and touch-module submodules for current and future projects.
  • Review build data for touch-module functionalities, particularly technologies related to the scan plan.
  • Analyze failures and propose corrective actions for scan-plan module issues, and help other team members address urgent testing issues.
  • Perform regular lab validation and testing of existing and future programs, operate lab equipment to collect data, and post-process data to find root causes.
  • Review schematic and board-layer designs for future projects and participate in discussions to improve them.
  • Generate functional and test specification documents.
  • Travel internationally 10% of the time.
