About The Position

Apple Inc. is hiring for a hardware development role in San Diego, California. The position works with cross-functional teams—including Mechanical Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Display Engineering, and Process Engineering—to develop, integrate, test, and validate hardware and sensing technologies. Responsibilities span schematic capture and design review for boards, modules, and flex designs; ASIC application design, system bring-up, and integration; testing across supply chain nodes; and preparing designs for mass production through failure analysis, root-cause diagnosis, and performance optimization. The role also contributes to current and future touch-module technologies, reviews build data and scan-plan functionality, investigates flagged issues, and proposes corrective actions. It includes lab validation and testing using lab equipment, preparing factory plans for validation of future technologies, and creating Python and MATLAB tools to improve daily post-processing workflows. International travel of 10% is required. The position is 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering in Internet of Things, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience and/or education in analog and mixed-signal circuit design.
  • Experience with system-level engineering concepts such as digital signal processing, noise, interference, and electromagnetic analysis.
  • Experience in mixed-signal PCB design, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection.
  • Expertise with scientific modeling and analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, or equivalent.
  • Expertise with simulation tools such as Cadence, HSpice, or equivalent.
  • Experience performing failure analysis and hardware debugging to solve complex technical issues during hardware development.
  • Experience generating functional and test specification documents.
  • Experience using lab equipment such as high-speed oscilloscopes, DMMs, TDM, or logic analyzers to take accurate, high-quality measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Display Engineering, and Process Engineering teams.
  • Lead cross-functional integration discussions and electrical-engineering coexistence assessments.
  • Perform schematic capture for board, module, and flex designs.
  • Design ASIC applications and perform system-level bring-up and integration.
  • Test modules and validate features across supply chain nodes.
  • Analyze failure modes, diagnose root causes, and solve system-level problems.
  • Prepare designs for mass production through failure mode analysis, root-cause diagnosis, and performance optimization iterations.
  • Work with team members to design and validate sensing technologies for future programs, including preparing factory validation plans.
  • Create software infrastructure tools using Python and MATLAB to improve daily post-processing tasks.
  • Contribute to discussions about improving existing technologies and touch-module submodules for current and future projects.
  • Review build data for touch-module functionality, particularly technologies related to the scan plan.
  • Analyze failures and propose corrective actions for flagged scan-plan module issues; help other team members address pressing testing issues.
  • Perform regular lab validation and testing for existing and future programs, operating lab equipment to collect data for failure analysis and post-processing.
  • Review schematics and board-layer designs for future projects and participate in discussions to improve those designs.
