Hardware Designer II - Mechanical

MiovisionKitchener, ON
CA$100,000 - CA$120,000Remote

About The Position

At Miovision, we are engineering the physical foundation of smart transportation, and we need a Hardware Designer II, Mechanical to help us build the tech that keeps global traffic flowing smoothly. Reporting to the Hardware Design Manager, you will be the chief engineer navigating our products from the concept drawing board straight through to the assembly line. We are looking for a mechanical mastermind who can steer cross-functional teams, dodge design roadblocks, and ensure our hardware architecture never hits a pothole. If you have the manufacturing experience to accelerate our product design schedules and the drive to build the physical gear that solves real-world infrastructure challenges, it is time to put the pedal to the metal!

Requirements

  • Extensive hardware and product design experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
  • Highly skilled with 3D CAD and Product Data Management Software (SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM preferred)
  • Deep experience designing parts across a wide variety of manufacturing technologies (Molding, Machining, Casting, Stamping, Extrusion) and decoration techniques (Powder Coating, Anodizing, e-coating)
  • Highly familiar and comfortable with running comprehensive DFMs, DFAs, and DFTs to ensure designs are truly optimized for real-world production
  • Strong, practical experience utilizing Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools for efficient part and Bill of Materials (BOM) management
  • Solid knowledge of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and know exactly how to seamlessly integrate them into complex mechanical products within a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Own critical aspects of new product design—spanning from individual parts and modules to full product architecture—supporting them from initial concept through to mass production.
  • Vigorously drive the hardware design process to hit strictly defined schedules and cost targets without compromising on quality or performance.
  • Work seamlessly alongside Electrical, Quality, Firmware, and Manufacturing teams to execute complex technical requirements and root-cause systemic issues.
  • Take an active, hands-on role in the prototype building stage to deeply understand the design, identify assembly friction, and proactively resolve part quality issues.
  • Successfully introduce new products to the manufacturing floor, supporting the team with hands-on training and rapid debugging during initial prototype builds.
  • Manage and cultivate strategic relationships with global suppliers through clear communication, and actively source new suppliers and technologies to elevate our hardware capabilities.
  • Design, develop, and implement manufacturing and assembly test fixtures for both new and existing products.
  • Champion in-life product improvements (like BOM cost reductions and new supplier qualifications) while contributing to team growth through design reviews, brainstorming, and sharing best practices.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health benefits
  • 24/7 virtual healthcare access
  • Dedicated wellness programs
  • RRSP/401K Matching Plan
  • Variable Incentive Plan
  • Unique Mio-Days
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Flexible work options
