About The Position

Working within the Avnet Centralized Support organization, the Avnet Marvell Applications Engineer will act as the technical lead for Marvell’s switching, PHY, and processor SoC products, with a focus on the hardware aspects required to successfully use those products. This individual will serve as a resident expert and technical support resource for Avnet's customer base. This is a remote / work from home position.

Requirements

  • Experience with embedded system hardware (Network SOC’s, switches, PHYs, SerDes, PCIe, XAUI, SGMII, DDR, etc)
  • Experience programming boot devices such as (IP/NAND) Flash, EEPROMs
  • Working knowledge of peripherals such as Flash devices (NAND/eMMC/SPI), SDIO, HS USB, GE, Serial, I2C, SPI, etc.
  • Experience debugging with protocol analyzers (e.g. Wireshark) and Ethernet Traffic Generators/Testers (e.g. IXIA)
  • Strong Ethernet networking background, including TSN, AVB, IEEE 1588, TCP/IP, UDP, ARP, DHCP, ICMP, etc.
  • Team attitude, but also ability to work independently for extended periods of time.
  • Some travel to customer sites may be required.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure. Strong time management and task switching skills are necessary as you may be working on multiple customer problems at a time.
  • Work is performed without appreciable direction using independent judgment and discretion. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and priorities. Work may be reviewed at a high level from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results.

  • Previous Applications / Field Applications Engineering experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly understand all major components of Marvell networking products and how they should be used, staying abreast and trained on Marvell’s Switching, Processor, PHY and other product portfolios
  • Responsible for understanding the technical requirements/specifications of the customer and architecting an optimum Marvell based device solution.
  • Participate in field investigations of complex HW/SW issues and replicate them in Marvell lab using Marvell reference designs and hardware / software tools.
  • Work closely with FAEs to provide software and system level hardware technical support to customers including Linux BSP, U-boot boot loader, device drivers, and board design debug issues.
  • Perform schematic reviews.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve issues/bugs reported by customers utilizing low level debuggers and boot sequencing
  • Assist customers with feature implementation from an API, system architecture or platform level.
  • Act as technical liaison between the Avnet FAE and Marvell applications engineering teams for issue escalation and resolution
  • Participate in Marvell AE training events. Prepare and train FAE’s and/or customers.
