About The Position

The Hardlines Pricing Analyst studies the retail prices of our competitors, analyzes price behavior/product performance and sets/maintains the retails in our Point-of-Sale system. Demonstrates intellectual curiosity by exploring data beyond assigned requests, identifying emerging trends, unusual patterns, and opportunities that may not be immediately visible.

Requirements

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple project workstreams with limited supervision.
  • Occasional local or regional travel to McCoy's store locations or events is required for content capture.
  • Must have a current driver’s license and auto liability insurance.
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ Years' experience pricing retail products
  • Experience applying concepts to practical situations and works with common mathematical concepts.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience using AI-enabled tools to support research, analysis, or reporting
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and IBM Cognos and project-management tools experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Retail, Construction, or Home Improvement experience, preferred.
  • Experience evaluating or piloting new AI tools or workflows within a pricing or analytical function
  • Work toward Certified Pricing Professional (CPP) certification within two years followed by continuous education to remain certified.
  • Familiarity with AI applications and a track record of applying them in analytical, pricing, or business environments is required; experience evaluating or recommending new AI tools for team-wide use is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors pricing data for completeness, accuracy, and consistency across assigned categories.
  • Identifies pricing anomalies, missing cost information, incorrect competitive mappings, and data exceptions.
  • Partners with Merchandising, Information Services, and Store Operations to resolve data quality issues impacting pricing decisions.
  • Manages and documents rules and strategies (by category/by geographic zone) as changes are made.
  • Recommends improvements to pricing data standards and business rules.
  • Reviews and takes appropriate action on MAPP, PMAPP, and IMAPP updates
  • Analyzes large datasets to identify trends in pricing, gross margin, sales, market share, market baskets, and customer purchasing behavior and other metrics
  • Analyzes large datasets to identify opportunities for pricing consistency, price progressions, and gross margin improvement.
  • Generates "what if" scenarios to model sales and gross margin impact. Test, review and report on progress of strategic pricing decisions.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of category pricing strategies, identify gaps and opportunities, and recommend refinements to strategies.
  • Translates complex analytical findings into concise recommendations for business leaders.
  • Identifies repetitive analytical work that can be automated through AI, scripting, or reporting tools.
  • Participates in the design and testing of new pricing tools, AI workflows, and analytical capabilities.
  • Continuously improves pricing processes through automation and data-driven efficiencies.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and related technologies to support competitive pricing activities.
  • Regularly and independently applies AI-enabled tools to improve research efficiency, pricing analysis, market monitoring, reporting, and data-driven insights, and looks for opportunities to apply AI to reduce manual effort within assigned categories.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret large datasets and translate findings into business recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with large datasets using Excel, SQL, BI tools, AI-enabled analytical tools, or similar technologies.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to data accuracy and integrity.
  • Ability to communicate analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Responsible for a balanced workload in the stores and improved price execution. Coordinate the day-to-day pricing activities within each merchandise category
  • Proactively communicate relevant information as necessary to appropriate levels in the organization, formally and informally, in both written and oral forms
  • Work on special projects, ad hoc analysis, and initiatives related to pricing strategies
  • Foster a collaborative partnership with the McCoy's Store Operations Teams
  • Attends and participates in department meetings, training sessions, and company-sponsored programs as required.
  • Participate in product training as needed, including NHPA on-line training.
  • Attends team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Other assignments and duties as assigned by management.
