Under minimal direction, this role is responsible for the 24/7 operational availability of essential and complex fire boats, dive vessels, and other assigned Harbor Department marine assets. The position involves supervising direct reports, leading logistics for projects, analyzing information to solve problems, and maintaining strict safety standards. It includes managing and performing diagnostic investigations and repairs, coordinating with contracted repair facilities, and performing preventative maintenance. The role also assists in diagnostic evaluations, works with vendors on overhauls, recognizes and initiates plans for maintenance issues, and provides documentation for fabrication, construction, assembly, modification, maintenance, or use of devices, parts, equipment, or structures. Additionally, it assists in developing and managing planned maintenance budgets, evaluates and initiates corrective actions for emergency repairs, reviews and maintains records and logs, works with regulatory agencies for compliance, performs periodic vessel inspections, monitors for required engineering documentation, and inspects, services, repairs, adjusts, and tests mechanical and electrical/electronic systems. The role also maintains dock and shop equipment, ensures safe workplace standards, determines compliance with laws and regulations, handles environmentally sensitive materials, and operates machines or processes through control mechanisms or direct physical activity. Tasks can be hands-on or involve overseeing repairs by others. Other related duties may be assigned.
