About The Position

This role involves a wide range of site support services, including decontamination, general cleaning, laundry handling, physical labor, vehicle operation, routine inspections, spill containment, and the use of radiation monitoring equipment. The position requires the ability to perform manual tasks, operate various tools and equipment, and support grounds maintenance and fire brigade duties. The individual will also be responsible for maintaining qualifications as a fire brigade member, fire watch, first aid responder, and confined space rescue.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivelant.
  • Satisfactory physical ability to perform manual labor work in and out of doors, at times under adverse working conditions.
  • Intelligence adequate to observe conditions, learn new methods and follow instructions.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to use small hand and portable power tools, and to perform simple mechanical tasks.
  • Satisfactory physical and psychological condition as incidated by company-provided examination.
  • Must have ability to obtain a respirator clearance within six (6) months.
  • Ability to obtain first aid and CPR qualification (not EMT) within six (6) months.
  • Ability to obtain unescorted access to Susquehanna Steam Electric Station.
  • Must posses a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Performs decontamination of personnel, equipment and facilities.
  • Performs general cleaning of facilities as necessary or assigned, such as: floor mopping, cleaning equipment and access areas, changes step-off pads; collects and transfers waste and equipment; and assists in radwaste processing and shipment activities.
  • Handles laundry consisting of collecting, sorting, washing, drying, monitoring, folding and distributing plant clothing, anti-contamination clothing and related equipment.
  • Works with multi-discipline crews doing work requiring varying degrees of physical dexterity performing manual tasks, such as: installing and removing shieldings, loading and off loading vehicles and moving equipment.
  • Operates forklifts, pick-up trucks and other vehicles not requiring a commercial driver’s license.
  • Performs routine inspections such as drum and sump levels, protective clothing storage/dress areas, equipment and material storage cages assigned to the work group.
  • Sets up and operates small portable pumps (not related to plant operation) and assists with the set up and sluicing/processing of liners/drums, tankers, etc. for release or disposal.
  • Performs containment and cleanup of radioactive/hazardous or non-hazardous spills having the potential for environmental impact.
  • Sets up, supplies and removes control points in support of radiological/hazardous activities under the direction of Health Physics when required.
  • Uses radiation monitoring equipment such as friskers, survey meter and pocket dosimeters in order to perform self-survey to meet the requirements of the Health Physics program and uses portable hand and power tools (i.e. drills, powered screw drivers, circular saw, etc.).
  • Issues and returns receptacles for radioactive, hazardous and non hazardous material in accordance with established station operating procedures.
  • Performs simple painting, such as: walls, doors and handrails.
  • Loads delivers and unloads materials, tools and equipment to various locations.
  • Installs modular furniture and assembles furniture cabinets, shelving and office non-electrical fixtures.
  • Supports grounds maintenance work activities such as grass cutting, operating lawn power equipment, operating motorized street sweepers and operating snow blowers and tractors for snow removal.
  • Operate and maintain sign shop.
  • Performs duties and maintains qualifications as site fire brigade member, fire watch, first aid responder and confined space rescue.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.
