About The Position

This is a 100% outpatient Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) position located at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago, IL. The hospital is situated in West Town, a vibrant and culturally rich neighborhood known for its energy, diversity, and creativity. The area offers a variety of amenities and is easily accessible via public transportation (Blue Line, Division stop) and offers free parking. The role involves evaluating and treating individuals with pathological upper quarter conditions resulting from trauma, diseases, congenital or acquired deformity. The therapist will use specialized skills to prevent dysfunction, restore function, and/or reverse the progression of pathology to enhance quality of movement and daily living skills. A key aspect of the role is developing and progressing plans of care to help patients return to their prior level of function.

Requirements

  • Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) - required
  • Must be a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) from an accredited Hand Therapy Certification Commission and must successfully pass the exam, and become certified before onboarding.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to each individual patient following determination of dysfunction and musculoskeletal status.
  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy.
  • Current state Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy certification/license.
  • Current BCLS (AHA) certificate.
  • Current state license.
  • Current Hand Therapist Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and conduct evidence-based treatment of individuals with pathological upper quarter (hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder girdle, cervical area or multiple joints) conditions resulting from trauma, diseases, congenital or acquired deformity.
  • Use specialized skills to promote goals of prevention of dysfunction, restoration of function and/or reversal of the progression of pathology in order to enhance quality of movement and daily living skills for individuals with upper quarter disease or injury.
  • Develop and progress plan of care to meet the needs of the individuals served to assist in returning them to their prior level of function.
  • Evaluate and treat an upper extremity patient seeking care for repetitive strain, traumatic injury, neurological dysfunction and post-surgical rehabilitation.
  • Maintain good rapport and working relationship with physicians in the community specializing in upper extremity medical care.
  • Functions according to professional practice as an integral member of the interdisciplinary care team.
