About The Position

Fabricates and repairs metal objects by welding metal parts together with arc welding equipment, including MIG or stick welders. Works from written or verbal orders, prepares and positions workpieces, adjusts welding equipment, and checks finished work for conformance to specifications and workmanship standards. The role also involves maintaining housekeeping and following departmental safety requirements. The employee may be exposed to high noise levels, must rotate to other areas for ergonomic safety, and may perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Ability to fabricate metal objects by welding metal parts together using arc welding equipment.
Ability to position metal objects properly for welding.
Ability to set and adjust welding power sources and wire feeders for proper amperage and voltage output.
Ability to select and mount an appropriate electrode.
Ability to weld parts together using a MIG or stick welder.

Responsibilities

Position metal objects for welding and clamp or assemble workpieces in jigs or fixtures.
Set and adjust the welding power source and wire feeder to provide appropriate amperage and voltage.
Select the appropriate electrode size and composition and mount it in the holder.
Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and build up metal parts using welding equipment.
Weld in flat, horizontal, or vertical positions using MIG or stick welding equipment.
Clean or degrease parts using a wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.
Remove excess weld, slag, or spatter using a hand scraper, power chipper, portable grinder, or arc-cutting equipment.
Inspect finished workpieces, units, or parts for conformance to specifications, defects, and workmanship.
Rotate to other areas for ergonomic safety.
Maintain good housekeeping in the work area.
Observe departmental safety requirements.
Work from written or verbal orders.
Perform other duties as assigned.
