About The Position

This is a full-time LIVE-IN position in an on-campus residence hall. The hall advisor apartment may accommodate the hall advisor and his/her family (family is defined as hall advisor, spouse, and dependent children). Due to the nature of the position and the size of the hall advisor's apartment, applicants with more than TWO children will not be eligible for consideration. Children must be under the age of six. The Hall Advisor represents BYU and Residence Life in a professional and courteous manner as a live-in employee performing their normal employee and living activities in their employer provided apartment. The role facilitates a pleasant, safe and clean atmosphere so residents can have positive academic, spiritual and social development.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate community development by preparing and supporting Resident Assistants (RAs) in their roles.
  • Act as a resource and mentor for students, addressing concerns and inappropriate behavior, and coordinating services.
  • Educate residents on Housing Guidelines, University Policy, health, safety, and legal violations, and manage the behavioral process.
  • Refer students to appropriate university departments and ecclesiastical leaders.
  • Mentor communities to foster healthy living environments through appropriate communication.
  • Teach principles of agency and Community Standards to residents.
  • Mediate roommate, floor, and building conflicts.
  • Interpret and disseminate Housing Guidelines to residents.
  • Supervise Resident Assistants, including hiring, training, and coordinating their schedules and responsibilities.
  • Advise Hall President and Hall Council members regarding hall activities.
  • Coordinate building custodial concerns and regularly inspect buildings for cleanliness and repairs.
  • Conduct regular cleanliness inspections of resident rooms and apartments, and train residents on cleaning.
  • Facilitate building safety and security, including locking doors.
  • Conduct monthly inspections of safety equipment and respond to emergency situations as the Emergency Building Coordinator.
  • Train residents in emergency procedures and conduct evacuation drills.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily involvement and submit detailed reports to management.
  • Attend required staff meetings, team meetings, and training programs.
  • Promote re-occupancy and provide housing services to summer guests.
  • Assist in assigned projects, including determining resident room assignments.
