About The Position

This position involves performing the various skills of hafting (shaping) a Case knife. The role requires attention to detail in shaping, coloring, buffing, and blending knife components to meet customer specifications and quality standards. The Hafter is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work area and performing inspections throughout the process.

Requirements

Physical ability to stand as required by operation.
Physical ability to sit for extended periods in front of equipment.
Physical ability to move normally throughout department as required by operation.
Physical ability to lift up to 35# (lifting trays containing knives, wheels, and/or other components).
Physical ability to push/pull as required by operation.
Normal or corrected vision for inspection of work/components.
Minimal bending/stooping.
Hand action (some processes require gripping, turning and pushing with fingertips).
Repetitive motion (some processes require wrist motion, pressure, and exposure to vibration).

Responsibilities

Assuring work area is safe.
Performing the various skills of hafting (shaping) a Case knife, including Color Backs, Hard Buffing, Turn Bolsters, Turn and Color Covers, Cutting Slopes/Edges/Fronts, and Grease Buff.
Perform sand paper/belt changes as required.
Perform various wheel changes as required.
Breaking in the new buff/raking down buff as necessary.
Properly applying grease buff to sand paper.
Determine quality levels and perform inspection of product, performing required inspection before, during and after hafting.
Responsible for cleanliness of the work area during and upon his or her completion of jobs.
Take instructions from supervisors.
Assist Engineering/Quality departments as needed.
