Habilitation Counselor
About The Position
Devereux Children’s Behavioral Health Center (DCBHC) is seeking a Habilitation Counselor to work with adolescents who have a behavior and emotional diagnosis. This role offers the opportunity to make a positive change in the lives of children and youth by implementing behavior management strategies and unlocking their full potential. The DCBHC Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital provides programs and services for children and adolescents experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis in a safe and compassionate inpatient environment. Located in Malvern, PA, this position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a therapeutic rapport with adolescents while assisting, supporting, and instructing individuals in self-help, coping skills, and positive behavioral interventions outlined in a clinical treatment plan. The Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services (DPACS) center serves children, adolescents, and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric challenges. Services include psychiatric residential treatment, acute inpatient psychiatric hospital care, assessment services, community-based mental health services, community-based employment training, social skills training, and approved private school educational services for males and females aged 6-21.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or related degree required.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Proficient communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills (Proficient in Outlook, SharePoint, EHR, Microsoft office).
- Valid driver’s license must be maintained
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience preferred (not required) working with individuals with psychological, emotional and behavioral disorders, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders, and/or autism spectrum disorders.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the individuals you are working with are safe
- Be involved in the development of PBIS Lesson Plans and training
- Facilitate group conferences with program/staff and/or individuals to discuss the programs' active treatment plan
- Confer with individuals to discuss their options and goals so that goals and supports can be developed
