About The Position

The Gynecological Teaching Associate (GTA) is trained specifically to teach the breast and pelvic examinations to learners using their own bodies. Learners have an opportunity to practice the breast and pelvic exam. The GTA is expected to guide the trainee in the performance of correct pelvic and/or breast exam techniques, advise the trainee how to make the exam(s) more comfortable for the patient, suggest variations on the basic exam(s) for special situations, help with identification of basic pelvic and/or breast anatomy, demonstrate supportive communication skills, provide each learner with summative, qualitative feedback, and allow faculty/peer student trainers to directly observe the interaction between GTA and participant(s) in the clinical exam room.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1 year of documented experience or training from and established SP program that follows the guidelines established by the Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE).

Responsibilities

• Interacts with staff, faculty, and health care students in a simulated clinical exam setting
• Instructs health care students in the performance of correct pelvic and/or breast exam techniques using the GTA's own body.
• Advises health care students how to make exams more comfortable for the patient.
• Suggests variations on the basic exams for special situations.
• Helps health care students correctly identify basic pelvic and/or breast anatomy
• Provides constructive, summative, qualitative feedback to health care students.
• Allow faculty/peer student trainers to directly observe the interaction between GTA and participant(s) in the clinical exam room.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
