About The Position

The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) is seeking Gymnastics Assistants for multiple temporary positions supporting instructors and working with children and adults in our Gymnastics Program. These roles assist with Competitive Team programs and help provide safe, fun, and high-quality gymnastics instruction to the Arlington County community. Our well-established program includes two USA Gymnastics member clubs, the Arlington Aerials and Arlington Tigers, offering Development Program Levels 3–10 and Xcel/Club Levels Silver–Diamond (Platinum for Tigers). Teams compete at the local, state, regional, and national levels under the guidance of experienced gymnastics instructors. The ideal candidate will have the ability to assist with intermediate to upper-level youth and adult classes. Concepts taught throughout the course are moderately complex and require considerable technical experience.

Requirements

  • Some experience with gymnastics or administering recreational programs. Gymnastics experience may come from a variety of sources, such as work, volunteering or formal athletic participation.
  • Ability to assist with intermediate to upper-level youth and adult classes.
  • Selected candidates must possess or obtain Adult and Child First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.

  • Working with children of all ages

Responsibilities

  • Assisting instructors and programmers with supervision of athletes during gymnastics practices, preparing for practices, and implementing lesson plans and curriculum
  • Setting up equipment prior to practices, securing equipment afterward, and assisting athletes with proper equipment usage
  • Participating in practices by engaging athletes
  • Performing administrative activities and attending staff meetings
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned
