About The Position

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to instruct in the theory, computer skills, and operation of machine tools associated with the gunsmithing industry. Employees in this classification perform instructional work. Position is responsible for teaching classes and instructing students; preparing lesson plans; preparing tests; evaluating work; and counseling and advising students. Perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Gunsmithing or Diploma Computer Integrated Machining Technology.
  • 3-5 years in the Gunsmithing field.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic computer and key boarding skills.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Gunsmithing or Computer Integrated Machining Technology.
  • Armorer certification from any reputable fire arm manufacture, with advanced knowledge in the areas of CAD/CAM, Manual and CNC machining.
  • Microsoft office knowledge a plus as this job will require the use of this software.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches classes: instruct students on use of shop and computer drafting, CAD/CAM machining equipment.
  • Supervises work experience activities; evaluates students’ work.
  • Prepares lesson plans and activities; writes course overviews and outlines.
  • Maintains shop equipment; machine repairs and general maintenance.
  • Determines need for and requisitions supplies; ensures proper storage and security of supplies; obtains quotes as needed.
  • Prepares attendance reports and administers attendance policy; Administrators and responds to annual evaluation report.
  • Averages grades and prepares student grade reports.
  • Counsels and advises students.
  • Recruits new students for programs.
