The Gunsmith III can design, fabricate, modify, repair and service foreign and domestic firearms, weapons and accessories. This role requires a deep understanding of munitions and ballistics, the ability to construct custom pistols, rifles, and other weapon systems, and proficiency in working from blueprints without supervision. The Gunsmith III will also consult with government officials on various aspects of the Weapons Department, including range design, ammunition, weapon mounts, suppressors, optic systems, and prototype development. Additionally, this position involves direct supervision and training of subordinate gunsmiths and managing the day-to-day operations of the Arms Room, including accountability of sensitive items, preparation for shipment, receipt, handling, turn-in, and storage in accordance with AR 190-11. This includes ensuring equipment is stored properly, documentation is updated in AWRDS, and weapons are correctly issued for maintenance or repair. The role also requires maintaining accountability of weapon accessories, ensuring BII & AAL are on hand or ordered, and properly receiving, tagging, and securing weapons for positive control. The Gunsmith III is responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly storage area, ensuring weapons are stored as designated by management, and planning, prioritizing, and executing weapon repair missions. This includes servicing and repairing US military firearms according to Technical Manuals (TMs), documenting all services performed, and applying FAM’s, MAM’s, SOUM’s, and MWO’s as required. The position also involves directing and conducting packing operations for outbound shipments and managing the receipt, storage, and sorting of unserviceable equipment and supplies. Verification and sorting of incoming weapons for storage, enforcement of security requirements under AR 190-11, 13 & 51, and examination of storage crates and racks are also key responsibilities. The role includes compiling and maintaining reports on location changes, issues, receipts, and shipping, and moving or transporting weapons or supplies using equipment like a Pallet Jack, Forklift, or industrial truck, ensuring all movements of sensitive items are recorded in AWRDS. Maintaining inventory and stock records for materials, equipment, and products is also required. Finally, the Gunsmith III performs all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
