About The Position

Inrock, a part of the Sandvik Group and a worldwide leader in tooling and services for Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Contractors, is seeking a Guidance Field Engineer in Canada. This role involves providing exceptional customer service across North America and occasionally globally. The engineer will perform land surveys, create bore plans, and offer expert advice and direction to clients on-site to ensure safe and accurate underground installations, guiding them past obstacles and within specified tolerances. Full training is provided, and no prior experience is required. The position demands a willingness to travel extensively, sometimes for extended periods on short notice.

Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Willingness to travel anywhere, occasionally for lengthy periods of time on often short notice.
  • Ability to work 12hr shifts plus 0.5-1.5 hour commute each way.
  • Ability to work away from home with no set schedule of start and end dates for projects.
  • Proficiency in trigonometry.
  • Ability to hike through heavy snow with steep valleys/hills while carrying 15kg of gear and/or pulling 300m of 10-gauge cable.
  • Ability to lift/load 40kg pelican cases into vehicle and carry across work locations.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of cliental.

Nice To Haves

  • Able to problem solve with little to no outside assistance.
  • Strong people skills.
  • Land Surveying with Total Station and GPS.
  • Computer proficiency including AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
  • Previous HDD experience a plus.
  • Customer Service experience a plus.
  • Construction experience a plus.
  • Degree in Engineering or Science a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform land surveys and create bore plans.
  • Provide clients with sound advice and direction at job sites.
  • Guide clients to safely navigate past obstacles and within specified tolerances.
  • Perform daily tasks in all-weather environments.
  • Work with limited to no supervision.
  • Work away from home with no set schedule for project start and end dates.
  • Hike through heavy snow with steep valleys/hills while carrying 15kg of gear and/or pulling 300m of 10-gauge cable.
  • Lift/load 40kg pelican cases into a vehicle and carry across work locations.
  • Work with a wide variety of clientele.
