About The Position

Cardinal Ritter College Prep is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Guidance Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, personal, and college/career development of students. The Guidance Counselor works collaboratively with students, families, faculty, administrators, and community partners to promote student success and ensure that all students are prepared for graduation and future educational and career opportunities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Education, or a related field required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and varying academic needs.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Proficiency with student information systems, Microsoft Office, and related technology.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, families, and community partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Missouri School Counselor certification or ability to obtain certification preferred.
  • Previous counseling experience in a secondary school setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of college admissions processes, graduation requirements, and post-secondary planning.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and social-emotional learning.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, personal, social, and emotional development.
  • Assist students in developing and monitoring academic plans to ensure progress toward graduation requirements.
  • Guide students through the course selection and scheduling process.
  • Monitor student academic performance and identify interventions for students experiencing academic difficulties.
  • Support students and families in addressing attendance, behavioral, social, and emotional concerns.
  • Assist students with college and career planning, including college applications, financial aid, scholarships, career exploration, and post-secondary decision-making.
  • Coordinate and administer college readiness programs, testing information, and related student services.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and external agencies to address student needs and promote student success.
  • Maintain accurate student records, transcripts, and counseling documentation.
  • Facilitate classroom guidance lessons, workshops, and presentations on academic success, college readiness, career exploration, and social-emotional wellness.
  • Participate in student support teams, parent conferences, and faculty meetings as appropriate.
  • Serve as a resource for students, families, and staff regarding student services and available community resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional, ethical, and legal standards.
