About The Position

The Guidance Counselor will engage students in learning, manage student behavior positively and proactively, and create a safe and optimal learning environment. The role involves preparing students to become productive and responsible citizens through positive engagement and modeling. The counselor will create a flexible program and class environment conducive to learning and personal growth, establish effective rapport with students, and address individual student needs. Motivation of students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge for continuing education is key. The position requires establishing positive relationships with students, parents, and staff, supervising students in assigned areas, developing lesson plans, and delivering group and individual instruction within curriculum guidelines. Providing accommodations and modifications for diverse learners, including those with IEPs, 504 plans, or Health Care Plans, is essential. Collaboration with other educators and administrators to address instructional or classroom issues, responding to inquiries from students and parents about the instructional program and student progress, and fostering a culture that empowers students and encourages inclusivity and support for all children are also core responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Engage students in learning, manage student behavior in a positive, proactive and constructive manner for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Prepare students to become productive responsible citizens through positive proactive engagement and modeling.
  • Create a flexible program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
  • Establish effective rapport with students, seek to meet individual student needs.
  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continuing education.
  • Establish positive relationships with students, parents and other staff members.
  • Supervise students within assigned areas and as needed.
  • Develop Lesson plans.
  • Deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines.
  • Provide diverse learners with accommodations and modifications to ensure learning.
  • At a minimum provide the legally required modifications and accommodations as outlined in each child’s IEP, 504 plan, Health Care Plan or other legally mandated document.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, administrators to address instructional and/or classroom issues.
  • Respond to a wide range of inquiries from students, parents, and guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.
  • Create and support a culture that empowers students.
  • Encourage a culture of inclusiveness and support for all children.
