About The Position

Legacy Charter School is seeking a reliable and student-centered Guest Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. This role plays a critical part in ensuring continuity of instruction and maintaining a positive learning environment during teacher absences. The ideal candidate is flexible, proactive, and committed to supporting scholar learning and school operations while contributing to a safe, structured, and respectful school environment. Legacy Charter School is a high-performing public charter school serving approximately 468 scholars in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood. Our team is dedicated to building a strong, joyful learning environment where scholars are supported academically, socially, and emotionally. About the Role The Guest Teacher provides daily instructional coverage in the absence of a classroom teacher, ensuring that learning continues in a structured and productive environment. This role involves implementing provided lesson plans, managing classroom routines, and maintaining a safe and respectful atmosphere aligned with Legacy’s core values. When not covering a classroom, the Guest Teacher supports school-wide operations, including supervision duties and administrative tasks, helping ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the school. This role is ideal for an educator who is adaptable, organized, and committed to supporting scholar success in a fast-paced school environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or Substitute License required

Responsibilities

  • Implement lesson plans effectively while adapting as needed to meet scholar needs
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and respectful classroom environment
  • Deliver instruction in a clear, organized, and engaging manner
  • Utilize differentiated strategies to support diverse learners
  • Build positive relationships with scholars, staff, and families
  • Uphold school-wide expectations for culture and climate
  • Supervise scholars during transitions, hallways, and other assigned duties
  • Support daily school operations, including tasks such as writing passes and assisting with logistics
  • Use G-Suite tools (Google Classroom, Drive, Calendar) to support instruction and communication
  • Actively seek feedback and demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative and mission-driven school culture
