About The Position

The Illinois Department of Agriculture is seeking individuals for temporary employment, not to exceed 6 months, for the Du Quoin State Fair summer season. Temporary employees are needed for the Guest Services area. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to work in a constantly changing, fast-paced environment. Successful candidates will be individuals who can work promptly and efficiently to ensure the DuQuoin State Fair, as well as non-fair events, run effectively. Applicants are encouraged to apply early as offers for positions will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of eight years of elementary school.
  • Must be able to pass a name-based sex offender registry check.
  • Must be able to work all 11 days of the State Fair, which may include nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to work for up to 10 hours a day or more, possibly outside.
  • This position may require a valid driver’s license.
  • This position may require the ability to complete a good deal of walking, standing, and sitting.
  • Must be at least 18 and a valid driver's license (for Campground Attendant and Trams roles).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with and assisting the public with general inquiries.
  • Experience with basic office equipment and computer programs.
  • Elementary knowledge of basic math and alphabetizing.
  • Experience with cash handling.
  • Experience with maintaining satisfactory working relationships with management, other employees, and members of the public.
  • Experience with understanding and following written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides Customer Service to the general public, vendors, competitors/participants, and volunteers regarding the Du Quoin State fair (DSF) and events that happen prior to, during, or after the DSF.
  • Responsible for assisting the DSF office with customer sales and services.
  • Performs data entry or other computer work using computer programs specific to the DSF as well as with office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Performs various office/clerical functions.
  • Assists with various operational functions of the DSF.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
  • Sell parking passes to fair patrons and direct them to parking spaces.
  • Assist with camper's needs.
  • Drive tractor trams to transport guests around the fair grounds.
