Seasonal Guest Engagement Guide
About The Position
The Guest Engagement Guide is responsible for facilitating the Kiwanis Giraffe Encounter (giraffe feeding) and supporting guest engagement through educational, interactive experiences. This role contributes to a positive guest experience by providing accurate information, promoting conservation messaging, and delivering consistent, welcoming service while maintaining safety standards and animal wellbeing regulations. All employees serve as ambassadors of the Zoo and are expected to act in a professional manner consistent with the Zoo’s mission and its core values of Passion, Excellence, Teamwork, Stewardship, and Inclusion. This expectation applies when interacting with the public or when reasonably perceived as representing the organization.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Demonstrates foundational knowledge of biology, zoology, or related sciences or a willingness to learn through training and experience.
- Demonstrates critical thinking, good judgment, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while coordinating effectively with others.
- Demonstrates motivation, attention to detail, and an interest in supporting conservation-focused and mission-driven work.
- Demonstrates ability to assert safety rules and regulations to guests, volunteers, and other staff while maintaining professional and friendly demeanor.
- Employees working in or around animal areas may be required to meet health and safety requirements based on job duties and risk exposure, in accordance with applicable law. These requirements may include TB testing, rabies vaccination or titer verification, and documentation of other vaccinations.
- May be required to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification or be willing to complete training and certification as a condition of the role.
- May be required to operate Zoo-owned vehicles (including golf carts), powered equipment, and/or ride or attraction systems. In such cases, must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with Zoo policy. A pre-employment Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) check will be conducted, and an annual MVR review is required.
- May be required to travel on occasion.
Nice To Haves
- Approximately one year of experience in education, guest engagement, or a related field is preferred, including roles in a museum, zoo, hospitality, or similar setting.
Responsibilities

- Engages guests through interpretation, answering questions, and providing accurate information to support educational, safe, and welcoming experiences.
- Follows safety protocols and responds to operational needs, supporting a safe environment for guests, staff, and animals while contributing as a reliable team member.
- Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and applicable departmental guidelines.
