About The Position

This position involves working with preschool-aged children in a GSRP (Great Start Readiness Program) setting. The Aide will support the GSRP Lead Teacher in implementing high-quality, developmentally appropriate practices, maintaining a safe and nurturing classroom environment, and communicating with families. The role requires flexibility to work across different sites and a commitment to continuous professional development.

Requirements

  • Yearly CPR/AED and first aid certification.
  • Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work at physical level with preschooler.
  • Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
  • Ability to use computers, software and other current technology.
  • Effective written communication skills; including parent/family communications and program data and reports.
  • Ability to effective oral communication with children, families, GSRP Program Manager and other program staff.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Maintain professional atmosphere and demeanor in classroom, acting at all times as a representative of GSRP and/or ISD.
  • Attend and engage in continuous professional development as needed and appropriate.
  • Knowledge of the Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Prekindergarten.
  • Climb steps and playground equipment as needed.
  • Walk long distances in community-based instruction.
  • Lift and position physically involved children.
  • Change diapers or assist any children in toileting and other self-care skills.
  • Assist with maintenance/custodial care of classroom, as needed.
  • Use universal precautions at all times for personal health and safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with preschool preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise children during classroom activities and outdoor periods on the playground.
  • Supervise children during emergency situations (i.e. tornado drills, fire drills, etc.).
  • Monitor safety of children during arrival and departure activities.
  • Supervise children out of the classroom and/or school building (i.e. community based instruction/leisure, field trips, etc.).
  • Constantly monitor and evaluate the safety of all children.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher with classroom clerical and record keeping duties (i.e. attendance, lunch count, progress monitoring of child development).
  • Complete accident and/or incident reports as needed.
  • Implement high quality developmentally appropriate practices as outlined by the GSRP Implementation Manual.
  • Work cooperatively as a part of a team, including co-teaching with the Lead Teacher, Early Childhood Specialist, Early Childhood Speech Therapist and Early Childhood Support Specialist to coordinate and plan curriculum and activities.
  • Engage in activities with children at their physical level.
  • Create an overall supportive, nurturing, strength-based atmosphere.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • Be flexible in working with four different sites and including as a substitute.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the St. Joseph County ISD Administrators.
