The GSE Mechanic maintains aircraft powered and non-powered ground support equipment in an effective and safe manner acceptable to the Government. This role involves reporting to the Back Shop Maintenance Team Lead and utilizing NASA’s Automated Maintenance Data System (NAMIS) for equipment records and maintenance documentation. The mechanic will also maintain external fuel and grounding systems, perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, and inspect, test, and operate GSE daily to determine serviceability and proper operation. This includes working with diesel, gasoline, and turbine engine-powered equipment, servicing equipment with various fluids, and disassembling/assembling accessories and components. The role also requires removing, disassembling, repairing, cleaning, treating for corrosion, assembling, and reinstalling GSE components and accessories. Additionally, the mechanic will be responsible for stenciling and marking GSE, storing, handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards. Good housekeeping, tool control, and Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention are essential. Responsibilities may extend to using repair and test equipment like welders, torches, pressure testers, and electrical testers, as well as preparing GSE for storage and transportation. The position may involve Designated System Inspector (DSI) duties and requires proficiency in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various aviation ground support equipment. Providing aircraft ground support duties such as towing, marshalling, and jacking aircraft, and assisting with aircraft maintenance inspections and repairs are also part of the role.
